DJI Zenmuse S1 Spotlight for Matrice Series
The DJI Zenmuse S1 is DJI's first gimbal-stabilized spotlight built for multi-payload enterprise drones, compatible with the Matrice 400, Matrice 350 RTK, and Matrice 300 RTK. It uses LEP (laser-excited phosphor) technology to project a bright, long-throw beam, with three switchable lighting modes and a 3-axis gimbal that lets the operator aim the light independently of the aircraft. On the Matrice 400 it reaches an effective illumination distance of 500 m and 40 lux of central illuminance at 100 m, making it suited to public safety, search and rescue, inspection, and other nighttime operations.
LEP-powered airborne spotlight with a 500 m effective throw, three lighting modes, and a 3-axis stabilized gimbal for the Matrice 400, 350 RTK, and 300 RTK.
Features

Lighting modes
The S1 offers three lighting modes, switchable in flight from the remote controller. All three can be paired with 5 Hz strobe and analog dimming.
- Low Beam. Wide 15° beam that spreads even illumination for close-range work and fill lighting. Central illuminance of 20 lux at 100 m on the Matrice 400 (13 lux on the M300 RTK / 350 RTK).
- High Beam. Concentrated 4° beam using LEP technology for long-range reach and light penetration. Central illuminance of 30 lux at 100 m.
- Both On. Low and High Beam together for maximum brightness and distance, reaching 40 lux at 100 m and an effective illumination distance of 500 m on the Matrice 400.
Who this is for
- Public-safety and law enforcement operators running night search-and-rescue, missing-person sweeps, or scene illumination from the Matrice 400, 350 RTK, or 300 RTK
- Emergency-management and disaster-response teams that need a steerable airborne light to put visibility on a location without ground crews holding handheld lights
- Fire-service crews lighting staging areas, access routes, or active scenes from above during overnight response
- Inspection and utility operators working around towers, bridges, substations, or pipelines in low-light conditions, especially when pairing the spotlight with a zoom camera
- Security teams conducting overnight perimeter checks at facilities, infrastructure, or events
What's included
- 1 × DJI Zenmuse S1 Spotlight
Please note: The Zenmuse S1 is compatible with the DJI Matrice 400, Matrice 350 RTK, and Matrice 300 RTK, and mounts onto any gimbal connector on those aircraft via its detachable DJI SkyPort mount. On the Matrice 350 RTK and Matrice 300 RTK, the only compatible remote controller is the DJI RC Plus, and both the aircraft and controller must be updated to the latest firmware before use. Rated power and peak illuminance differ by airframe (120 W and 40 lux at 100 m on the Matrice 400; 68 W and 35 lux at 100 m on the Matrice 300 RTK / 350 RTK), and the 500 m Both On throw, Intelligent Beam Alignment, and dual-spotlight synchronized control are Matrice 400 features. The aircraft is sold separately. Verify your aircraft model and controller before ordering.
Use-case considerations: Night operations involving drone-mounted spotlights are subject to FAA night-flight rules under Part 107 and may require additional waivers or approvals depending on the operation. The spotlight does not replace the anti-collision lighting required for Part 107 night flight. Public-safety operators should follow their agency's standard operating procedures for night flight and aerial illumination. Aim the beam responsibly: directing a spotlight into the eyes of pilots, drivers, or pedestrians can create real safety hazards.
FAQ
Which aircraft is the Zenmuse S1 compatible with?
The DJI Matrice 400, Matrice 350 RTK, and Matrice 300 RTK. It mounts onto any gimbal connector on those aircraft. Performance figures are highest on the Matrice 400.
Do I need anything special to use it on the Matrice 300 RTK or 350 RTK?
Yes. On both the Matrice 300 RTK and Matrice 350 RTK, the only compatible remote controller is the DJI RC Plus. Before flying, update both the aircraft and the remote controller to the latest firmware. No separate mounting adapter is needed. Note that these airframes run at the lower 68 W rated power and 35 lux at 100 m, and the 500 m Both On throw, Intelligent Beam Alignment, and dual-spotlight synchronized control are exclusive to the Matrice 400.
How bright is it and how far does the beam reach?
On the Matrice 400 in Both On mode, the S1 delivers 40 lux central illuminance at 100 m and an effective illumination distance of 500 m. On the Matrice 300 RTK and 350 RTK, central illuminance is 35 lux at 100 m. These are DJI lab figures measured at 25 °C with the payload installed; real-world performance depends on altitude, atmospheric conditions, and target reflectivity.
What is the difference between the three lighting modes?
Low Beam is a wide 15° beam for even close-range fill lighting. High Beam is a concentrated 4° beam for long-range reach using LEP technology. Both On runs both together for maximum brightness and distance. All three support 5 Hz strobe and analog dimming.
Is the spotlight stabilized?
Yes. The S1 has a 3-axis gimbal (tilt, roll, pan) with a controllable tilt range of −120° to +60° and pan of ±320°. The operator can aim the beam independently of the aircraft's heading and hold it on a target while the aircraft maneuvers.
What is Intelligent Beam Alignment?
When the S1 is used with the Zenmuse H30 Series on the Matrice 400, gimbal synchronization automatically aligns the spotlight beam with the camera's field of view, so the light follows wherever the camera is looking.
Can I run two spotlights at once?
Yes. Two Zenmuse S1 units can be mounted on a single Matrice 400 and controlled simultaneously through synchronized control.
Is it safe for the eyes?
The S1 is rated IEC 62471 Risk Group 1. It also automatically limits brightness to 40% whenever the aircraft is not in flight to reduce glare for pilots and ground crews. As with any high-output light, avoid aiming the beam directly at people's eyes.
How does it mount to the aircraft?
The S1 uses the detachable DJI SkyPort mount for quick installation and removal on supported airframes.
Is it weather resistant?
The S1 carries an IP54 ingress protection rating under controlled laboratory conditions per IEC 60529. The rating is not permanently effective and can decrease with product wear and tear.
Is night flight permitted with this spotlight?
The S1 is a lighting accessory; the rules governing night flight are independent of it. Under FAA Part 107, night operations are permitted with appropriate aircraft anti-collision lighting and pilot currency. The spotlight does not substitute for the anti-collision strobe required for Part 107 night operations. Public-safety operators should follow their agency's standard operating procedures for night flight and aerial illumination.
