DJI Matrice 4 Series Obstacle Sensing Module
Ships in 2-4 weeks
The DJI Obstacle Sensing Module (model LR-01) adds a dedicated LiDAR and millimeter-wave radar sensing package to the DJI Matrice 4D Series, with native support on the M4D and M4TD dock-based aircraft. It fuses a rotating LiDAR with a five-direction millimeter-wave radar to detect thin, hard-to-see obstacles, such as 12 mm power-grid wires, at up to 100 m, giving the aircraft reliable obstacle awareness during low-altitude and close-range flight in cluttered industrial environments. The module also works on the standard Matrice 4 Series using the included adapter bracket.

Who this is for
- Utility and energy operators flying powerline, transmission, and substation inspections where thin wires must be detected and avoided
- Matrice 4D / 4TD dock operators running autonomous and remote missions that need dependable obstacle awareness without a pilot on site
- Inspection crews working close to bridges, towers, industrial plants, and other structures in visually complex settings
- Survey and mapping teams flying low-altitude or confined-area missions that demand close-range precision
- Fleet operators standardizing on the Matrice 4 platform who want enhanced sensing on their existing aircraft via the adapter bracket
What's included
- 1 × Obstacle Sensing Module
- 1 × Adapter bracket (Matrice 4 Series)
- 1 × H2.5 hex key
- 1 × H1.5 hex key
- 12 × Reflective stickers (for DJI Dock)
Installation and notes
- The module connects through the aircraft's dedicated sensing expansion port. On the Matrice 4 Series, install it with the included adapter bracket and update the aircraft to the latest firmware for full functionality.
- Install per the procedure in the DJI Matrice 4D Series (or Matrice 4 Series) user manual, using the included H2.5 and H1.5 hex keys, and confirm the module is fully seated before flight.
- The IP55 rating applies when the module is used on the Matrice 4D Series. The rating is not permanently effective and may decrease with product wear and tear.
- The included reflective stickers are for use with DJI Dock to support precise dock operations. Apply them per the Dock documentation.
- Detection figures are DJI reference values measured against a 12 mm steel cable. Real-world detection depends on obstacle size, material, reflectivity, weather, and flight speed. The module aids the pilot and flight controller; it does not remove the operator's responsibility to see and avoid.
Please note: This module natively supports the DJI Matrice 4D Series (M4D and M4TD). It is also compatible with the standard Matrice 4 Series (M4E / M4T) using the included adapter bracket and the latest firmware. It is not compatible with other DJI airframes. Confirm your aircraft model before ordering. The aircraft is sold separately.
Under FAA Part 107, the remote pilot in command remains responsible for collision avoidance and safe operation. An obstacle sensing module is an aid, not a substitute for the pilot's see-and-avoid responsibility and standard operating procedures.
FAQ
Which aircraft is the Obstacle Sensing Module compatible with?
It natively supports the DJI Matrice 4D Series (M4D and M4TD). It is also compatible with the standard Matrice 4 Series (M4E / M4T) using the included adapter bracket, provided the aircraft is on the latest firmware. It is not compatible with other DJI airframes.
What sensing technology does it use?
A combination of a rotating LiDAR and a five-direction millimeter-wave radar. Fusing the two lets the aircraft recognize obstacles more reliably during low-altitude and close-range operations than optical sensing alone, including in cluttered industrial areas.
Can it really detect power lines?
Yes. It is designed to detect thin structures such as 12 mm power-grid wires at ranges up to 100 m, with effective sensing at flight speeds up to 15 m/s (measured against a 12 mm steel cable). Real-world performance varies with wire size, material, weather, and speed.
Is it weather resistant?
It carries an IP55 ingress protection rating when used on the Matrice 4D Series, and operates from -20 °C to 50 °C. The IP rating is not permanently effective and can decrease with wear and tear.
How does it attach to the aircraft?
It connects through the aircraft's dedicated sensing expansion port. On the Matrice 4 Series, use the included adapter bracket. The package includes H2.5 and H1.5 hex keys for installation.
What are the reflective stickers for?
The 12 included reflective stickers are for use with DJI Dock, supporting precise dock-based operations. Apply them according to the DJI Dock documentation.
Does this replace the pilot's responsibility to avoid obstacles?
No. The module is a sensing aid that feeds obstacle data to the flight control system. Under FAA Part 107, the remote pilot in command is still responsible for collision avoidance and safe operation.
