The AVSS PRS-M4DT is a 215-gram parachute recovery and flight termination system for the DJI Matrice 4D Series, designed for the M4D and M4TD when operated from DJI Dock 3. It deploys in under 0.5 seconds and brings the aircraft down at a controlled 2.92 m/s with 8.82 J of impact energy, supporting FAA Part 107 Operations Over People at both Category 2 and Category 3.
Dock 3 ready. Sub-half-second deployment, 2.92 m/s descent, and FAA Category 2 / Category 3 OOP compliance for autonomous M4D and M4TD missions.
Features
- Sub-0.5-second autonomous deployment from the onboard triggering system, with manual deployment available through the PSDK
- Plug-and-play flight termination system that cuts motor power on activation, with an option for 0 meter / 0 foot deployment
- Average descent rate of 2.92 m/s (9.58 fps) and average impact energy of 8.82 J (6.51 ft-lb), inside the impact-energy thresholds for Category 2 and Category 3 Operations Over People
- Total system weight of 215 g (+/- 5 g), engineered to fit the M4D and M4TD without disrupting Dock 3 docking, charging, or autonomous launch and recovery
- Designed for autonomous, dock-based operations: deployment logic and FTS handle the failure modes that matter when no pilot is standing by the aircraft
- ASTM F3322-24a compliance documentation included to support FAA Part 107 Category 2 and Category 3 OOP declarations
- Energetic deployment technology for fast, reliable canopy inflation in low-altitude failure scenarios

Please note: The PRS-M4DT is an add-on for the DJI Matrice 4D Series. The aircraft and DJI Dock 3 are sold separately. Repacking and inspection schedules are detailed in the AVSS user manual; plan for a repack after deployment or per the manufacturer's interval.
FAQ
Which DJI drones is the PRS-M4DT compatible with?
The PRS-M4DT is built for the DJI Matrice 4D Series, specifically the M4D and M4TD aircraft used with DJI Dock 3. It is not compatible with the standard Matrice 4 Enterprise (M4E) or Matrice 4 Thermal (M4T), which use the AVSS PRS-M4S instead.
Does this make my Matrice 4D compliant for flights over people?
Yes. The PRS-M4DT is designed to meet the FAA Part 107 impact-energy thresholds for Category 2 and Category 3 Operations Over People when installed on the M4D or M4TD. The included ASTM F3322-24a compliance documentation supports your declaration of compliance.
What is the difference between Category 2 and Category 3 Operations Over People?
Category 2 allows sustained flight over people with no impact-energy threshold above 11 ft-lb (and no exposed rotating parts that would lacerate skin). Category 3 allows flight over people only in restricted-access sites or transient flight over people, with a higher 25 ft-lb threshold. The PRS-M4DT brings the M4D and M4TD inside both thresholds.
Why does the M4D version weigh more than the M4S version?
The PRS-M4DT (215 g) is a heavier system than the PRS-M4S (149 g) because the M4D and M4TD are heavier aircraft and the system is tuned for autonomous Dock 3 missions. The trade-off is a slower descent rate of 2.92 m/s versus 3.80 m/s on the M4S, which lowers impact energy.
How is the parachute triggered during a dock mission?
Two ways. The onboard autonomous triggering system monitors the aircraft and fires the parachute automatically if it detects loss of control or freefall, which is the primary safety net for unmanned dock operations. A manual deployment is also available through the PSDK so a remote pilot in command can terminate flight on demand.
How fast does the parachute deploy?
The autonomous triggering system fires the parachute in under 0.5 seconds from detection of a flight anomaly, and the energetic deployment opens the canopy almost immediately. The system supports a 0 m / 0 ft deployment option for low-altitude scenarios.
What is the warranty?
The PRS-M4DT ships with a 1-year manufacturer warranty from AVSS against defects in materials and workmanship.
